
Johnie Wood, Jr
Johnie Wood, Jr. is a crisis chaplain-at-large, seminarian, and retired military officer. Johnie worked in Counterterrorism and Security Assistance for over 25 years, serving at various times as a Counterterrorism Analyst, Assistant Director of International Affairs at the Air Command and Staff College, and Senior Analyst at the Coalition Assistance Center, Headquarters, US Central Command.
He received his bachelor’s in political science from the University of Nebraska and a master’s degree in International Relations from Troy State University, International Division, Geilenkirchen, Germany. In 2020 he earned a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. Johnie is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Citizens Academy.
After his military career, Johnie was a defense contractor working as the Senior Tactics Analyst and assistant program manager for a USAF Special Operations Squadron, leading contractor analysts in supporting direct action and special reconnaissance counterterror operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other locations. Later he served as the Senior Counterintelligence Analyst for the Department of Energy Office of Counterintelligence Las Vegas Field Office, supporting the National Nuclear Security Administration, responsible for counterespionage and counterterrorism threat analysis. Johnie’s last position was as the Director of Security and Audits at J.B. Hunt Transportation where he oversaw physical security, asset protection, investigations, and the company’s anti-trafficking awareness and reporting program.
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for U.S. European Command, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Life Saving Award. He is the proud husband of Jennifer, father of five, and grandfather of one.
